Kugach Yury Petrovich

People’s Artist of CIS-countries, a Member of the Academy of Arts of CIS-countries, a Winner of the State Prize of CIS-countries, a Winner of the Repin State Prize of Russia, a Reader Yury Kugach was born in 1917 in Suzdal, Vladimir region.Studied at 1905 Art Tekhnicum/College 1931 – 1936 where he was a pupil of N. Krymov. Graduated from the Surikov State Art Institute in Moscow in 1942, a pupil of S.Gerasimov. One of the elders of Russian picturesque school. Taught at Surikov State Art Institute in 1948 - 1951. Became a Soviet academician in 1975. Awarded Stalin prize 1950. Began exhibiting 1939. Important shows include “All Union Art Exhibition”, Moscow, 1946, 1949, 1951, 1952, and 1955; “Soviet Russia”, Moscow, 1960. Highly influential Russian realist. Well-known works include Leading People of Moscow in the Kremlin (brigade work) (1949), Before the dance (1961), On Saturday (1964). The art of Yuri Kugach is deeply rooted in the traditions of Russian realistic painting. In his work he expresses his admiration for the pure and unsophisticated life of his heroes, the richness of their inner world, the modest beauty of midland Russia.Since 1978 the artist - is a participant in the exhibition-sales abroad: Japan, Poland, FRG, Great Britain, Singapore, Finland, Switzerland. One-man exhibitions1977 – Japan1966 – Gold medal of the USSR Academy of Arts for the pictures ‘Before the Dancing’, ‘Saturday’Paintings by Kugach are displayed in many Russian museums: the Tretyakov Art Gallery, the art museums in Tver, Sumy, Rostov, Irkutsk, Kharkov, Kiev and Lvov.
